This course has been designed to provide you with an introduction into the needs and management of the stable kept equine. It will develop awareness of stable yard management and provide a working knowledge of how to care for the stable kept horse and pony. This will enable you to:

  • Appreciate the specific requirements, restrictions and potential problems of keeping a horse stabled.
  • Understand the needs of the stable kept horse and how you can fulfil these needs in a practical, effective and cost efficient way.

This course begins with exploring the natural instincts and how this behaviour is altered through stabling. The course investigates the reasons for stabling and how to minimise potential problems such as stress and vices. The particular needs of a stabled horse and pony through out the year are examined, including feeding, grooming, rugging, bedding and health and safety checks.

There is no experience or previous qualifications required for enrolment on this course. It is available to all students, of all academic backgrounds.

Study Hours

Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper.
