A Distance Learning Course of 7 Lessons
Course Description

PREPARE FOR THE WORLD'S LARGEST CERTIFICATION IN BASIC IT SKILLS ... WHENEVER YOU WANT, WHEREVER YOU ARE WORLDWIDE!

What is the ECDL / ICDL?

The ECDL (European Computer Driving License) is the world’s largest and fastest growing certification of Basic IT skills. Along with the ICDL, its international version, there are over 2 million people participating in training and testing in 58 countries worldwide. In fact, the European Commission recently issued a recommendation for the ECDL to be accepted as a Europe-wide Basic IT accreditation scheme.

The ECDL is designed specifically for those who wish to gain a basic qualification in computing; no prior knowledge of IT or computer skills is needed to study the ECDL.

Course Syllabus

How the ECDL works

The ECDL syllabus is designed to cover the key concepts of computing, its practical applications and their use in the workplace and society in general. It is broken down into seven modules, each of which must be passed before the ECDL certificate is awarded.

The ECDL is broken down into 7 lessons or "modules", each of which must be passed before the ECDL certificate is awarded. The ECDL Modules are as follows:

1. Basic Concepts of IT

  • Components of a computer, definitions common computer terms, computer use in everyday life.

2. Using the Computer and Managing files

  • Working on a desktop, organising files, simple editing, print features.

3. Word Processing (i.e. MS Word)

  • Opening a document, basic operations, styling and editing a document, printing a document.

4. Spreadsheets (i.e. MS Excel)

  • Opening a spreadsheet, inputting data, working with formulas/functions, graphs and charts, printing.

5. Databases (i.e. MS Access)

  • Planning a database, entering and sorting data, retrieving information, reporting

7. Information and Communication (i.e. Ms Internet Explorer)

Candidates obtain, usually from a test centre, a Skills Card listing all the modules. A 45-minute test for each module gives evidence of competence. As each module is passed, the accredited test centre will sign the Skills Card. Tests may be taken in any order and over a period of up to three years, offering maximum flexibility. When all the modules have been successfully completed, the Skills Card is exchanged for a personalised ECDL Certificate.
